Buying a Home?
- What can you afford? Refer to our mortgage calculator and “What can you afford” tab on previous page by clicking here. Budget for a life you want to live!
- Do you move around a lot? How long do you plan to stay in this home? Would you rent it later if you moved out? Consider location for resale.
- What acreage are you looking for? Large yards filled with greenery and a pool are enjoyable, but are you prepared for what comes with it?
- How much square footage do you need? Find a range that is suitable and affordable for you. Perhaps you’re planning on expanding your family, you’re preparing to take care of elderly relatives down the road, or you’re trying to downsize. Consider how many rooms you’ll need.
- Where do you want to live? Do you want a ranch with land, do you want to be in a neighborhood (look into HOA restrictions), or maybe a condo with low maintenance? Are you looking to be closer to the city or in the rural area? Will you have a commute?
- Make a checklist of Must-Haves. When you find yourself falling in love with a home, does it ‘check’ out? Keep yourself in check and thinking smart!
- Give yourself time! Buying property is a big investment. You don’t want to settle for something because you’re pressed for time. Have a plan if the process takes longer than expected.
- Take time during showings. Don’t rush your investment! A detailed checklist can be found on previous page, “What to look for”.
- Use your head! Just because you LOVE a home doesn’t mean you HAVE to have it. If it’s a bad deal, walk away. There will be others.
- Use your agent. Negotiate prices, appliances, furniture, etc. Communicate with your agent about options. Don’t be afraid to ask them anything. We are here for YOU!
- Work with professionals. You will want an experienced home inspector. Who wants to buy a house with costly repairs they were unaware of? Ask your agent for someone reputable.
- Look into homeowner grants. Some grants exists for teachers, farmers and even first time homeowners. Ask us about the Good Neighbor Next Door program. Purchasing programs are worth looking into!
